IDoA Engaging Award CertificateThe IATP program recently received the 2020 Governor’s Engaging Aging Award. The Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA) announced the award along with other award recipients at the Department’s virtual symposium that had over 600 attendees. IATP was nominated by AgeLinc (Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland). Highlighted efforts of the IATP program and staff included the development and implementation of a new program, Illinois Care Connects, which provides technology to older adults and persons with disabilities who are socially isolated as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program was a collaborative effort with IDoA, the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities, and the Division of Rehabilitation Services.

IATP had numerous staff volunteer their time as Friendly Callers to support AgeLinc’s COVID-19 outreach efforts for seniors that are socially isolated. The program was also recognized for their ongoing efforts and assistance including support with accessible information communications. AgeLinc stated “we are confident that IATP, and Executive Director Willie Gunther will continue to go to great lengths to meet the needs of seniors and those with disabilities.” To read more about this, the symposium, and other award recipients visit the IDoA web site.  To learn more about the Illinois Care Connects program visit https://iltech.org/services/illinois-care-connections/
