Do you have anyone on staff that can provide ongoing training to district staff on the use of PRC Accent 800 in the classroom setting? If not, do you know who can provide some of this training?

Thanks

Hello, My name is William Hovendon and I am a Community Health Worker for SIU School of Medicine. I am located in the clinic in Logan county. It is my job to try and find help for those in our healthcare system that have fallen through the cracks or have a hard time accessing healthcare due to limitations that they have. I currenlty have a family who’s daughter is nonverbal, nonmobile, and is confined to a wheel chair when she is able to leave the house. The family has been trying to transport her in their van but can no longer do so because they are getting older in years and cannot physically load her into the van like they used to. I am trying to find help with either obtaining a wheel chair van for them to use to transport or to find funding to retrofit their van with a lift that would be able to help. Is there any way you could assist with this or would know who to contact for assistance?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Greetings,
I am the Executive Director of the nonprofit, Camp I Am Me by Illinois Fire Safety Alliance was given your information from the Executive Director of the Hearing Loss Association of America – Chicago Chapter. In addition to providing support programs to burn survivors, we promote and educate residents across Illinois on fire safety and burn prevention. I am reaching out because we are looking to identify a feasible way to protect Illinois residents who are deaf or have a hearing impairment by outfitting their homes with specialized smoke alarms.
Our organization along with the Office of the State Fire Marshal have been administering a smoke alarm installation program across the state since the beginning of 2018 (www.ifsa.org/alarms). We have been able to distribute more than 20,000 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms to 260 fire departments so that they can educate residents and install the alarms across their communities – all at no cost to the FDs and the residents (www.ifsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2018-2022-Be-Alarmed-Final-Report.pdfIt has been a wonderful partnership. The evolution of the program needs to be alarms for the hearing impaired. Over the past five years, I have heard from fire departments, residents, and the deaf community about the need for access to these alarms – and I agree!
The problem, they are expensive! They are expensive for Joe Citizen to purchase and they are expensive for our program to purchase. Right now, we are paying ½ the price for retail 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms through our partnerships (retail $25, we pay approximately $12.50). A fantastic deal to make our dollars stretch and distribute as many alarms as possible. Hearing impaired smoke alarms are approximately $200-$250 a unit depending on the unique features that they may have (strobe lights and/or connection to a bed shaker).
I believe the most sensible way of identifying funding to support this expensive, but terribly important endeavor, is to identify partners in the community, support groups, associations and try to identify a company or grant opportunity that would further support our installation program that covers the entire state.
In reviewing your website, it looks like there may be opportunity here, or at a minimum, the ability to point us in the right direction to find partners. I would love to discuss this with you more and see if there are any potential opportunities to advance the program and protect the hearing impaired community.
Thank you.

Greetings,
I am the Executive Director of the nonprofit, Camp I Am Me by Illinois Fire Safety Alliance was given your information from the Executive Director of the Hearing Loss Association of America – Chicago Chapter.
Thank you.

May 19, 2023 at 11:10 am Kankakee County Julia Gallery Smart Home

This request is being submitted by Shealyn Ashby on behalf of Julia Gallery for her brother in law, Greg Gallery. Greg resides in a nursing home in Momence, IL. He has an Alexa that he will able to control using the iPad with a communication application he is receiving from IATP’s Reutilization Program next week. The family would like a way for him to control the TV that is provided by the nursing home, turning on and off his favorite radio station, and potentially other environmental controls. I am not sure that his current TV is compatible with Alexa at this time.

Good Afternoon!
I am a Special Education teacher at Mount Zion High School and we are planning to host a transition conference next fall for our parents who have children in our Functional/Life Skills ASPIRE Program. Our goal is to get as many people involved to help provide our parents with information about resources in our community. We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to come and sit at a table and answer parent questions and provide information about your organization and the supports you provide. It will be October 16th from 6-8 in the Mount Zion High School gym. If you have any questions or would like more details, please feel free to reach out and we can talk. If you are willing to have a table at our conference, please let me know and we can coordinate further.

Thank you!
