SUMMARY:PRC-Saltillo Advanced Access with ALP and Mounting
DESCRIPTION:Room:  IATP 2nd Floor Conference Room \n\n\nThis 2-day course will be presented by Shawn Malcomson\, Access Product Specialist for PRC-Saltillo. Our goal for this course is to bring high quality education regarding access considerations to local clinicians. These courses have been taught and refined over many years to ensure the content is relevant\, digestible\, and applicable. \n\n\nWe ask that the clinicians who attend are somewhat experienced with AAC and already understand the basic operation of the devices. If not\, we may ask that they work with the local consultant prior to attending the class. During the lab sections\, participants will work in pairs. The class size should not exceed 30 participants. \n\n\nYour course includes 13 hours of instruction (1.3 ASHA CEUs with a certificate for other credentialing requirements). SUMMARY:Simplifying Cooking with Assistive Technology
DESCRIPTION:Register HereOverview\nDaily meal preparation is challenging for nearly everyone—it can be complicated\, time-sensitive\, and physically demanding. While a disability can make cooking for yourself feel even more overwhelming\, a simple tool or strategy can often be all it takes to make it easier\, safer\, and much less stressful. In this discussion live from the Illinois Assistive Technology Program (IATP) Tech Kitchen\, we’ll show examples of a wide variety of low- and high-tech assistive kitchen tool options. I live with my mom and two cats in Kansas. I have autism and significant dysfluency. High-tech AAC has been my jam for the past nine years or so. Currently\, I’m using an Accent 1000 with LAMP and a keyguard. I like art (especially if it’s weird)\, writing\, drawing\, and crocheting. I crochet toys every week for a foster care program in Arkansas. I can also play the piano and bass clarinet. Many autistic people have one subject that they’re passionate about\, and for me\, that’s AAC. I absolutely love AAC: one\, because I think it’s super interesting how AAC operates and can be organized. And two\, because it enables so many with speech disabilities to communicate fully. \nSession Two: 10:30am – 11:30am\nEmpowering the Communication Journey: Fostering Capacity Across All Levels\nCourse Description: Join us for an engaging conversation on how School Assistive Technology (AT) Teams can provide support for students throughout their educational journey.
